War Journal to Father
From: Claus von Stauffenberg
To: Alfred Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg (Father)
Date: July 19, 1944
Dear Father,
As you may know, my thoughts of Adolf Hitler and his terrible morals have grown over the increasing years. In my opinion, he is a horrible man and has no justification for the terrible crimes he has committed. His practices against Jews so terrible I believe that I have to do something about it. Recently, my level as a war general has been increased, giving me better access to Hitler and his associates. With this in mind, I have decided to put an end to the war, and all of Hitler's insanity. In two day's time, I will attempt to silence Hitler forever, and bring righteousness to Germany and its people. Although I must do this, you have to get mother and our family out of the country. Get as far away as you can; if my plan fails, he will surely come after you too. The operation is called Valkyrie, and it is a huge secret. As long as all goes well, I will see you and mother when the war is over, and I have done the right thing. Pray for our cause, as this operation is one of our only hopes in defeating the evil Hitler.
Love, Claus
